About T.J.

My name is T.J. Cantwell and I have been working in the nonprofit field for more than ten years. I grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, a suburb of chicago and moved out to Virginia to attend the University of Virginia. 

As of August 24, 2009 I am the new Vice President of Nonprofit Relations at Gifts In Kind International, a major nonprofit dedicated to connecting business resources with nonprofit needs. I formerly worked as the Director of Veterans Housing for Rebuilding Together. I was hired as their first director of the Serving Those Who Serve program in April of 2006 and in May 2007 was also put in charge of the newly created Heroes at Home program. My staff and I worked with Fortune 500 donor corporations and managed multi-million dollar grant programs that provide low-income and disabled veterans with home repairs and modifications. 

Prior to working at Rebuilding Together, I worked for several national trade associations in various positions. I have been involved in marketing, communications, member services, and government relations. I have had the priveledge to represent organizations before Congress and Federal Agencies and have developed several national education programs to assist businesses in meeting their regulatory requirements.  I have a bachelors degree in history and government from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Public Policy from The American University. I also have a Certificate in Nonprofit Organization Management from the U.S. Chamber Institute

I currently live in Virginia with my wife, two sons and daughter.
